Fending from a bag
This has been a good day and it isn't even over!
The Nasal-Gastric tube was removed (again) after it had to be replaced during surgery. Nothing was draining so it was time. Also, I can pull myself to a sitting/standing position without help. It's quite painful, but I can manage.
I'm back on bag nutrition, but this time it will probably only be for a few days - and then I can eat! Well, it's pretend eating, starting with broth for a few days and working myself up to full liquids and then soft foods.
That's where I'll stop for a while - but this time the belief is that I will actually go further and eventually end up on a regular diet. My own plan is to do everything right and use food as my medicine. That's what I'm studying up on now. This was such a close call that Steve is being totally cooperative, he really thought I was at death's front door last week, a horrible place to find oneself or someone you love.
Would you believe it, this is my 23rd consecutive day in the hospital and doesn't even take in the four days from the previous week. Now my biggest problem is figuring out what my life is all about when I am well. I do expect to reach remission, don't know if that's possible, but that's my goal.
Those tubes s being removed sure seem like a move in the right direction to me. Hope all the food stays down like it should. So what books are you reading about food as medicine? My son and I would recommend The China Study which actually took away some pretty severe back pain had.
