On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Day by day

Well, this isn't exactly a runway photo, but surgery was only two ago so cut me some slack.  The suture line is ten inches long, clean with no blood loss. I can control the morphine by pressing a button every ten minutes so my pain level is usually zero - unless I fell asleep or forgot.  The most difficult part is getting in and out of bed, for that I ask for help, but in a day or two I'll be able to navigate that portion myself. In the meantime, I have Steve (who took the photo)

And Demi, too, of course, who adds her loyal company. The surgeon reminded me that dogs facilitate healing.  Right this moment, Demi is alongside of me in bed, where she stays for several hours each day.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

  1. You GO, Grrrl! Glad Demi is there to give comfort!

  2. I think it is so incredibly cool that they allow you to have your pets there with you. Many moons ago, I was a practicing nurse and we encouraged families to bring the pets for visits. It really made a huge difference on the patient's recovery process... not to mention the other patients benefited from the pets visiting as well... Glad to see you up and moving around :)

  3. This is a picture of courage and a lovely spirit, that's what this is Barbara. Hugs to you

  4. It is so good to see you up, moving and blogging so soon! I'm so happy for you and wish you a speedy recovery - hoping you can go home and sleep in your own bed soon!

  5. Good for you! They don't allow much lolling in bed after surgery anymore do they. It's so great Demi gets to be there so much.
