On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Alternative student

I've been emailing back and forth to my community college art instructor (Beginning Painting) and now everything is set.  Since I don't actually need a grade, diploma or any other certificate at this point, I reduced my status from getting a grade to simply getting Credit/No Credit.  The instructor suggested I attend whichever classes I have the energy to attend and even consider just staying for the instructional portion, not the actual painting.  That allows me to put as much into this class as I can and get out as much learning as I can get. (Not a bad formula for any student, any class, if you think about it.)

It feels as though the universe is bending over backwards to make it possible for me to complete this class instead of dropping out as I felt I had to do last fall.

  1. Wonderful that you & the teacher have worked out a way for you to participate as much as possible without you wearing yourself out--gold stars for both of you! (And I love these fruit paintings.)
