On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Happier than I have a right to be

One of Steve's friends took this photo.  I don't know the guy and I don't know his name to give proper credit, but it captures what my cellphone missed when I was trying to show you the same vineyard.  Now you can see why so many of us were pulling off the road to snap the shot.  It's really stunning when you just happen across it, unexpectedly, and there it is.

I felt well today, close to normal.  What's great about it is that I'm moving into the third week of the final chemotherapy cycle and this time, there's no infusion scheduled to wreck it all.  I'm just going to keep feeling better, I can pretty much count on that.  Whew!

What a blessing to know that each day will be better.  I can take fewer naps, walk further, begin to plan projects, begin to make plans, period.  For six months everything has been, well, Let's see how I feel.  Now I can schedule tea dates with friends, know that I will show up when I say I will, clear out all the medical stuff - who needs a heating pad, a blood-pressure thingie or bottles of Ensure when blankets are sufficient and there's real food for the taking.

I hope it sticks, I hope it lasts, but for today, it is.

  1. Now you are sounding like you are feeling better! This is a pretty picture. The hills beyond the farm look like "California". Makes me homesick!
