On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Stepping closer

Today was another doctor day, getting checked and cleared for surgery next Tuesday.  It went smoothly and then we, Steve and I, went shopping and out for lunch together.

The biggest problem in our area is that the recent rains have created a lot of bunch rot in the vineyards.  Winery workers can't harvest fast enough.  The season is late because of the unusually heavy spring rains and now the early fall rains are making a bad situation worse.  The olive trees have been decimated too.  Agriculturally, things couldn't be worse.

Sad, because I love the rain!

One hour for surgery. That doesn't sound too bad to me as my husband's kidney removal took over 6 hours! It took longer than they said so I started to worry but it worked out in the end. I've been under general anaesthesia but it was years ago. I think they do a much better job of giving just enough today from how I've seen my husband react to it. It doesn't really matter how anyone else has done though, this is you and it's scary and new and till it's done you are going to worry. I can leave you with a tiny funny (to me anyhow) tale of when my husband went in for a surgical removal of a broken wire from his quadruple bypass surgery. My husband is very private, very, very private. They told him to remove all his clothes for the surgery. He couldn't see why he had to take off his undies and argued with the nurse. She said it's the rules and that's that. He still refused. She was getting pretty angry when the doctor walked in and asked what was going on. After my husband told the doctor that the surgery was going to be done on his upper chest so he didn't see why he had to remove his undies the doctor said he didn't see why either! My husband was a happy camper and the real point is he found a way to have a little control over what was happening to him.

I told my sister of your surgery coming up and she wrote down the date and your name Barbara so she could get this to her group for prayer! She'll do it too.

  2. Here in Texas our crops have been decimated too...only for lack of rain and extreme heat! I imagine food prices will skyrocket! (eh...even more than they already have) Nice zentangle!
