On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Do over

I tried painting this lizard in watercolor after last week's attempt in acrylic.  Guess what?  This critter simply doesn't want to be painted, at least not by me.  So my do-over is a done deal.  End of story.

I completed today's hike, this being the one that would involve more climbing than I was used to.  The heat didn't help, but there were areas under a shady canopy of various oaks.  I'm hoping that, as I hike at least once a week, I will get stronger and become more capable.

We didn't turn over any rocks today so the snakes and lizards were undisturbed.  But I did learn about the eight types of oak trees in the preserve and why each one chose the environment it inhabits.  My head is swimming with facts with pages of notes to review when I have a free moment.

  3. Congrats on doing the hike. I have found I am really, really out of shape. You are doing really great! Your lizard isn't as bad as you think. Is it really a yellow one? Ours are mostly gray green but otherwise look like yours.
