On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Out in the field

I've never kept a real field journal, but I've often wanted to. After Labor Day I'm beginning a 23-week class in one of our local nature preserves so this seems like a good time to begin taking more notice of what I can see in our own environment.  I have several books to guide me, but I don't want to wait until I've read them to begin.  So I started with a blackberry stem that was falling over my own back fence.  Page One - done!

  1. I just started an artist's journal too - I'm not sticking to botanicals though, I'll be putting in anything and everything. I like yours already - great depiction of plants around you!

  2. That's how I do my blog - anything and everything - as you've probably noticed! I secretly envy those folks who have neat, orderly blogs and sketchbooks...
