On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Unseasonable

Like many Americans I'm worried about the debt ceiling issue before Congress and the lack of willingness to compromise so everyone gets something desirable and the global economy doesn't plummet. The rancor is unprecedented and inappropriate, that's my opinion.

I also feel helpless. Aside from contacting local representatives there's not much I can do so I tried to stay close to business at home and get at least one thing done.

Rocket, who used to be my favorite chicken, nearly ended up in a stew pot this week. She jumped into my favorite half barrel of flowers - lovely daisies surrounded by purple petunias with three-inch dwarf sunflower starts in progress - and tore everything apart. What she couldn't munch she destroyed.  This morning I swept up the mess, surrounded the barrel with gopher fencing - unattractive - and replanted.

I'll get over it.... eventually. If only Congress could learn to deal.
