On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

They came!

For the first time Sonoma, California participated in an International SketchCrawl. Twelve sketchers signed in, drew for three hours and had a great time. The local newspaper sent a reporter to take photos and document the event. We met at Sonoma Plaza, a square block of historic buildings and shops filled with tourists and picknickers. We drew the old mission and other buildings from the early 1800s, roses, the old Sebastiani Theater (oldest movie theater in continuing use in northern California), trees and the duck pond (my contribution). Participants were appreciative that the crawl happened and want to know when the next one is scheduled. I am thrilled with the response.

  1. Congratulations, Barbara, on launching such a great event! It was wonderful that you made the opportunity available to people, and also wonderful that people took advantage of the opportunity. If I lived nearby, I would have come, too....

  2. Thanks, Rebecca. I happened to see one of the participants this morning and she was effusive in her appreciation. When I thought it through I realized that of the 12 participants, 5 were from my watercolor class and 7 were strangers (not any more!). That pleases me even more!

  3. They came! How wonderful. I've never seen one here in Anchorage, maybe I'll have to get one going. It sounds like fun!
