On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Life in a lab(radory)

Brix x 3
I honestly don't know what Brix would do with himself all day if he couldn't snooze and cuddle up to someone. My original plan was to hose out the chicken coop - it needs it - but, just as I was setting forth, a new torrent of rain began falling so I backed myself into the house again. (Chicken coop hosing isn't my favorite activity so I wasn't broken-hearted.)

Brix, per usual, was snoozing so I sat with him and grabbed my sketchbook. When he shifted position I began again. The third shift - the small shaded drawing on the right - was when he had snuggled right up against me so his left ear was flush against my jeans. I could probably fill a thousand sketchbooks of this one dog - there are two more, also black labradors - because he'll lie down for hours.

I like that little head shot the best.

  1. I LOVE your dog sketches! After reading all your stories I'm beginning to feel like I know them. I have a yellow Lab and snoozing is one of her favorite things, too, although whenever I try to sketch her she seems to find a reason to get up and leave the room.

  3. I love the combo of sketches! Nice job. I need to sit down and do that some. I have a sketch of a couple of dogs I had years ago that I drew when I couldn't draw worth beans and I like to revisit those drawing on occasion as it puts me right back in touch with those dogs (even if the pics aren't really like them).

  5. He's a sweet boy, isn't he? All the labs I've known have been good dogs, the kind you like to snuggle up with.

  7. I like the little "head shot," too--intimate, and tender.
