On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

What is the one next to it?

Steve suggested we take a walk yesterday morning. I suggested we join a nature hike at a local park so we could learn more about our own back yard.

It worked! There were about 15 people, a great group of nice folk. I knew two of them from the Read-to-a-Dog program at the library (which means Demi knew them too!). That always warms my soul to meet up with someone out of context and realize we have yet one more thing in common.

Steve, Demi, Brix and I tromped around for a couple hours - lots of stopping and pointing all along the way - and I took notes as fast as I could. The guide was knowledgeable and pointed out all sorts of plants and birds I had seen countless times, but now I know their names. Everything seems so much more doable once you can give it a name, there's so much power in naming!

  1. There is! Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's not so good as when we label people and don't let them leave that label behind ever! The tree will always be okay labeled as to what kind it is. We all need to have a basis for knowing though so we can't get rid of all labels. Glad you had fun! Did your phone ever ring? (about the new art therapy class?)

  2. Hi Timaree -- Yes, the phone is starting to ring and I'm certain the group will be a go! Thank you for asking.
