On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

My inner dog

Boy, am I focused and determined these days! I was out and about in Santa Rosa (California) this afternoon with coupons for new art supplies. I mean, that's the best kind of coupons to have and I had two, saving over $20. YES! For the record, I didn't need art supplies and wouldn't have made the purchases without such bargains, but I love a bargain, don't you?

So I chose a huge spiral art journal - unusual for me to select large paper - and a 24-pack of the most luscious water soluble oil pastels. I couldn't wait to end my work day so I could sit in front of CNN and play!

I decided to start doing more art therapy type journaling because it's 100% correct no matter how I do it. This time my inner dog came out. (I didn't know I had one, but that's what I saw within the scribbles.) This dog is on a mission, going forward, happy as can be, focused and determined, full of gratitude for how well things are going.

OK, now you try it and see what comes up for you. Remember, there's no wrong way to do it!

  1. He's cute! I'm trying so hard not to spend every penny I get. As long as I avoid coupons and going into stores I do okay. I have plenty of art supplies; so many I am giving away a lot to my grandkids! But this sounds like a fun activity. I haven't done a scribble for a long time.

  2. That is one fabulous dog! I started sketching the things in front of me whenever I have to wait somewhere in the car. I'm terrible at it but occasionally I surprise myself. Always love seeing yours.

  3. Hi Timaree and Susan -- Scribble drawing can be fun once in a while -- in between "real" drawing when I do exactly what Susan suggests (except that I'm usually in front of TV but not watching).

Thank you both for stopping by.
