On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Let's go!

One way or the other I've almost always been employed since I was twelve (babysitting) or sixteen (first job). Occasionally I applied and was hired for a position in an existing agency, but at least 80% of my work has been something I created. You could call it freelancing, since none of my invented positions were full-time, but I've almost always had the luxury of setting my own hours, choosing my clientele and creating the kind of work I've felt most suited to do.

Last week I received final approval to start a new psychotherapy group as part of a congregation's healing ministry. Some faith traditions emphasize healing more than others and individual parishes vary as well. I suggested it to one church and they were receptive and accepted my proposal. The publicity will go out in Friday's newspaper and I'm hoping that there will be a handful of takers. The maximum that I can consider in such a group is eight.  I'm offering a combination of discussion, guided imagery and art therapy-like projects. And I am so very excited to see this new project finally underway.

  1. I'm so excited for you. How wonderful to combine the different things you love such as art, with helping other people and to do it in church, another of my favorite places. You go girl!!!
