On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The weather starts

Last Sunday it rained. It rained more than the forecasters expected and I was impressed. This afternoon it rained a tad, just bits and pieces off and on. There are two more storms across the Pacific headed our way with Sunday being the real one.

Northern California has a true rainy season. Last year it extended itself all the way to the last week in May and now it's starting up again. More typically it rains from November to early May. Or maybe December through April, something like that. But it doesn't rain all year the way I remember rain growing up in Illinois.

Call me perverted, but I love the rainy season. I like weather that does something, that gets involved with itself and enters our conversations. The rainy season becomes a member of the community, an entity to plan around and take into consideration when leaving home. Or making back-up plans just in case. It no longer sits there as it does in the sameness of the summer and early fall when it's just the weather, and even the newscasters get bored with the monotony of predicting the same temperature range for months on end. But now, now there's a little tumult and it becomes a guessing game.

I am so very happy!

  1. I love rain as well and living in England is always considered strange but I don't care, I love rain, snow, wind , sun. In fact all weather. It keeps us guessing and how bad would life be without rain and the need to wear raincoats and wellies. Anyway I also love your drawing. Enjoy your weather

  2. I'm happy too as the rain has come over to us in Kingman! It's the first real rain since I can't remember (like last January?) when! I'm more than happy, I'm ecstatic!
