Small things
I continue to be amazed at what little it takes to keep me happy! All week I've been counting chicken eggs - two more today - and dwell in the minor miracle of avian productions.
Taking Demi to the library every Monday afternoon so elementary kids can read to her is another little gift. I enjoy the children, I enjoy having a reason to be in the children's department, I browse the storybook section, I comment with the kids on the nice illustrations in the stories they bring to read and I often check out how-to books in the kid's art section.
Yesterday I came across DRAW 50 CREEPY CRAWLIES, by Lee J. Ames, one of many in the Draw 50 series. The first crawlie in the book is a firefly, although I grew up calling them lightening bugs. Just seeing the drawn image brought back sweet memories of chasing around the yard on summer Illinois evenings catching them, watching them light up and releasing them back to the air. I wasn't big on capturing bugs for Mason jars although I recall doing it once or twice. But I have strong memories of my delight in seeing them light up the summer evening. That was a small treat I'm glad I didn't miss.
I love the fire fly and I think it is always best to be

Great memory and drawing. I think it's the small things that keep life on a more even keel. We can't take much big heartache or even huge elation and the balance for those are small things both good and bad.
