On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Dog days???

According to the U.S. Weather Service it was 107º F in Sonoma this afternoon. I didn't believe that so kept switching channels and reporting sites and kept getting the same information. I do know that when I drove home from my art class this afternoon I was driving with my fingernails because the steering wheel was too hot to hang onto! The weather folks also said it only felt like 101ºF, as though I would recognize the difference. This may have been the warmest day of my entire life. Records were broken all over the Bay Area, this is so unusual. You will recall that just last week I was carrying on about how cold it was...

  2. Love it! Very nice strokes of each strands of hair on the cat, the expression is precious!

  4. One benefit of really hot days is my pets are mellow and lay around a lot - making good models! I do feel sorry for them in their fur. Your drawing of your cat is great. I love how the face is tucked against the rest of the body. You captured the pose really well.

  5. Wonderful sketch! We've been having the most horrendous heat this summer, since MAY! I'm just a little excited to see the extended forecast which shows highs in the upper 80s next week!! Please let it be over!!

  6. Charming cat. Too bad she can't remove her fur cat... though I heard last night that the wool on a sheep acts as COOLING insulation when the weather is hot...

Very nice rendering of your cat. Cats and long haired dogs both benefit from hair thickness, it acts as insulation. One of the worst things to do is have a cat or dog shaved.

  8. Thank you so much for your comments.

For those of you who made physiological observations, I had no idea that fur was so protective for cats and dogs.

Regarding the weather, it was a tad cooler today with a real cool down anticipated by the weekend.

Regarding Belle, yes, she is very, very fluffy! She adopted us several years ago, a stray who sat in the flower boxes until we started feeding her.

  9. Good work on your cat. Yes, it has been a hot summer. I am usually sad to see summer end, but this has been too much.

I love how cats can pick us, instead of the other way around.
