On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Food on my brain

I'm obsessed with this weight loss program I'm on. I've been spending an exorbitant amount of time thinking about food and planning the next meal. Sounds like an addict, doesn't it?

I am so determined to be successful and have a list of ten tools I use every day, one of which is drawing every morsel I consume.

So far, it's working. I've lost a few pounds, I'm out there walking (2.2 miles today) and my dogs are grateful. But I have a ways to go and this will take a while.

I need to get back to other kinds of drawing in addition to maintaining a visual food journal.

I've also been getting my vegetable garden set up for the season. I use the Square Foot Gardening method so each square is planted separately.

So far I've planted 16 square feet of pole and bush beans and I set out the eight bell pepper plants I started indoors by seed. I have three tomato plants in Topsy-Turvy planters (hanging upside down) and one has several yellow flowers on it so I think it's going to work.

Last year, I was so excited about Square Foot Gardening, which was new to me then, that I planted for too many different veggies but not enough of any one thing. This year I'm going to have a much more limited menu, but hopefully what I plant will actually be sufficiently abundant to actually feed this family. To be continued...

It's called "What I ate today" and people post their drawings of food. :)
    Good luck with your veggies!

  2. Sounds like a good idea to draw what you eat (for a while at least). Good luck with your weight loss. And looking forward to seeing some other sketches too.
