On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Most gorgeous day of 2010

Youngest Daughter is an avid collector of squished pennies. I googled the crushed penny site before we left for Sacramento and yesterday we found the two sources in Old Sacramento.

There are others in the city, but we were attached to the old part of town and did our searching there. It's a fun item to collect - sort of the modern version of setting coins on a railroad track, something her father grew up doing.

This day was spectacularly gorgeous. I walked a bit, took myself out for frozen yogurt and walked some more. I'm still drawing everything I eat and am hopeful that Wednesday, weigh-in day, will show the effort. I have to admit, I'm a tad hungry!

I also sat outdoors since it was so lovely. I'm trying to take better care of my garden and plants this year so while I sat, I made lists and fantasized about what a well-cared garden might look for and what I need to do to make that happen.

I added a couple journal pages to make it more concrete and then I watered the eight plants already doing well. That's eight out of the hundreds I hope to have before long. I have big plans this year!

Tomorrow is expected to be pretty too and then there will be more rain. That's okay -- this fantastic garden I'm gonna have will welcome the rain (as will I because I love rainy days).

  1. I enjoyed reading about your daughter's squashed penny collection. I had no idea there were places where you can buy them! You're doing a really good job on your food drawings and calculations - I'm sure you'll see results when you weigh in. Keep it up - your doing great! nancy

  2. Your post made me giggle. My daughter, now 15, still loves to collect squished pennies. I had no idea there was a squished penny website. Thanks for the info. I'll have to check it out on our next daytrip.
    Nice journal entry as well.

  3. Hi Nancy and Lisa -- I forget the website, but I googled "squished pennies" and several came up. I think it's something like penneycollector.com
