On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Mail, mail everywhere!

Youngest Daughter and I have been participating actively in Postcrossing and the cards are pouring in.

Because she has developmental deficits Steve and I have been trying to get as much mileage out of each card Heather receives. She calculates the postage for the postcards she mails from the mishmash of stamps in my metal Oreo box.

Steve ordered a laminated world wall map so she can place pins at the places she's sent/received cards. The librarian has been helping her find easy-to-read books with lots of photographs of the various countries. And, of course, we sit down each evening to write out new cards and register whatever was received that day.

Here are a few that came my way in the last week.

From Sweden:

From China:

From Norway:

And from Arkansas, this pixelated version of the flowering trees of spring:

Can't wait to see what arrives next!

  1. Because of your note about Postcrossings, I'm starting something new. The thought of sending a postcard and receiving one in the mail is so exciting to me - I love your ideas about using the map and pinpoints. My children and I had a large map above our kitchen table for years and we talked about news and places we wanted to visit or things they discussed at school. What a wonderful way for your family to reach out beyond the walls of what many would consider to be an insurmountable situation. Thank you for sharing your great artwork!
