On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Daily check in

I've never identified pokeweed before and don't even know if it grows here in northern California. But when Cathy (Kate) Johnson posted a photo of the plant and asked for volunteers to paint or draw it any media I rose to the challenge. Here is my interpretation. I used watercolor pencils, my most favorite way to paint.

Steve and I walked Demi and Parisse midmorning and it made the entire day go better. Usually we walk in the evening and today I'm hoping we get that second walk in too. I've lost twelve pounds in the last two months and I have to give my walker some credit. He gets me moving!

  2. I think you did a super job on this. If I find some time maybe I'll do the simple pic too. Last month's threw me for a loop. I was not up to that view of a trellis.

Hurrah - both for your walking AND for a wonderfully sensitive painting. Lovely

  4. What a great light touch you used with this.....it is beautiful!!! I was going to try this one, too, but you might have scared me off it! You've set the bar pretty high!

  5. After you mentioned it on the good thing blog, I had to check it out...nice work! And I LOVE pokeweed; it's starting to be pokeweed season here in Arkansas--it's coming up all over the place....

  6. Great watercolor. Thanks for the link to postcrossing. I signed up and am mailing my first postcard out to Finland today.

  7. What a nice drawing of the pokeweed! We have it all over here - that's both a good thing and a bad thing. It attracts butterflies (good thing), but it's very invasive (bad thing). I think it's quite attractive, tho, and your painting of it is well done! nancy
