On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Reading through July

I finished HEAVEN, the last part of Jeffrey Archer's prison diary trilogy. It isn't often that a Member of Parliament is locked up for enough time to crank out three insightful volumes.

While I'm sorry he had to spend his time in prison, I can also thank the author for using the time to write and let us into his world. I'm also curious to know, since he named so many officials along the way, what the repercussions were for them and for Mr. Archer. And I recommend all three books, but start from the beginning.

I recently heard that the average American, whoever that is, spends two years of life feeling bored. How awful!

And yet, as I say that, I have to acknowledge that I'm feeling a bit off myself this week. Nothing I draw is turning out, so I'm reverting to faces, faces and more faces. Drawing crowds is amusing to me, but I haven't made a real drawing piece for the entire month or more and am feeling a bit frustrated.

I'll contemplate that while I take the dogs for an evening walk.....

"I haven't made a real drawing piece in a month..." ohmygod ... your faces are in the best tradition of Folk-Art (my personal favorite). Even frustration is good - it means you are about to break into some new exploration and expertise. Meanwhile you have been creating Wonderful pieces, learning along the way, expressing yourself in ways that amuse you. Tony gets angry because I call my journal pages "Fun" - which he says is my way to diminish their importance so criticism does not sting so deep. He's right, but I also actually DO HAVE FUN working on and learning from them. What is wrong with Fun? Growth can come from Joy as well as from angst, right?
