On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Deep and sorrowful thoughts

Who couldn't be moved by THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY by Jean-Dominique Bauby? Here is a 40-something magazine editor with kids to raise and all sorts of life's gifts -- when he is struck down by a massive stroke and left with "locked-in" syndrome.

Using only his left eye, he dictates this wonderful little book to a patient scribe, one letter at a time. Describing his situation, fantasies and memories, he left a treasure for all of us who have so much more.

This is such a touching read. I understand that it was also made into a movie but I don't have the heart to watch it.

No one threw paint at Juvenile Hall today and the morning passed quickly. Soon it will be time to bring in the boards and actually begin the murals. I have no idea what will be portrayed, but I know the best artists of each group will be allowed to participate. The rest will stay with me and draw as they choose.

Steve and I went back to the farmers market this evening for supper and a look-see. We bumped into several friends and came home with fresh, organic veggies to turn into side dishes and a pot of soup.

  1. I read that book several years ago - it still both haunts and inspires me ... and, of Course I can tell it's a leg and a foot! Nice job! nancy
