On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

A naked female model

Demi was to be the class model today. I carefully removed her service cape and hoisted her to the table. The space was quite large, maybe eight feet by five feet, so she had room to stretch out and make herself comfortable.

Alas, comfortable she was not. As soon as I returned to my place in the classroom, just a few feet away from her, the separation was unbearable and she flew down. Visibly stressed, she started to drool and looked truly spooked. So our naked female model found a place on the floor instead and students drew her from there.

This afternoon's drawing class was an introduction to ink. I use Micron and Pitt pens all the time but I've never drawn with India ink and a nib.

Everything new always seems so difficult! I had trouble controlling the pen and the scratching was a strange sensation. I didn't try the washes that were also part of the lesson, not this time, but I will. In spite of the struggle I was intrigued by the method and would like to become more competent.

I like pen and ink - but not yet brave enough to draw in ink without a few pencil lines first! You have a nice variety of line here so perhaps pen and ink will grow on you!
