On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The end of the fifth week

In this lopsided year, 2008, the weeks all end on Mondays and begin on Tuesdays. Okay.... So tonight I finished reading Sue Miller's, THE SENATOR'S WIFE, which I enjoyed tremendously and expected to since she's on my list of favorite authors.

But it also means I'm already one book behind my book-a-week goal. But I'm behind in almost everything else on my list too. I hardly drew anything this week. My watercolor class meets tomorrow and I'm counting on that to nudge me forward. And I've only read a single short story so far this year, so much for a two-a-week goal. Etc., on down the list.

How come? I've been sleeping too much, that's one reason. I get so tired, so very tired with so little effort. I begin to read and then start nodding. I've been working more too, well over my 12 hour a week limit, and I have to stay alert for that.

So...maybe the sunny days anticipated all this week will energize me. In the meantime I can be happy that I read, this fifth week of the new year, one wonderful book. And that Beulie's coming home tomorrow, look out for Trouble!

  2. Hi Sue -- I make the same resolution every year....and sometimes I even succeed. Once, about 20 years ago, I got up to 66 books, but that's never happened again. Thank you for checking in! - Barbara
