On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

How do you like them apples?

In my watercolor class this afternoon I worked with some apple glazing studies we had done a couple months ago. I'm just learning how to mix paint on the page -- instead of in a puddle on the palette -- and I never seem to do it the same way twice, even when I'm following written directions. My instructor suggested that I lighten the background and add dark lines so the apples would sit better instead of float, suggestions I might take. There's so much to learn, so much to learn!

  1. Well, good try - I can't imagine trying to mix directly on the page - much too scary.

  2. Thanks Alison. The mixing is done is layers - each one dries thoroughly before the next one is applied. - Barbara

  5. Thank you both. Lynn -- I like the top right apple too and it was an accident! It looked like it was rotting so I blotted with a paper towel and went over the whole mess with Winsor red and it turned out!

Bmoon -- I hate to disappoint but mixing on paper takes ten times as long -- there are many layers, a dozen is not unusual, and each one has to be totally dry! - Barbara
