How do you like them apples?
In my watercolor class this afternoon I worked with some apple glazing studies we had done a couple months ago. I'm just learning how to mix paint on the page -- instead of in a puddle on the palette -- and I never seem to do it the same way twice, even when I'm following written directions. My instructor suggested that I lighten the background and add dark lines so the apples would sit better instead of float, suggestions I might take. There's so much to learn, so much to learn!
Well, good try - I can't imagine trying to mix directly on the page - much too scary.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison. The mixing is done is layers - each one dries thoroughly before the next one is applied. - Barbara
ReplyDeleteWell done, Barbara! That apple on the top right is exquisite!
ReplyDeleteNicely done. I am just learning glazing too.....soo much to it! But i am interested in learning how to mix on the paper....save a step, love that. Great colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you both. Lynn -- I like the top right apple too and it was an accident! It looked like it was rotting so I blotted with a paper towel and went over the whole mess with Winsor red and it turned out!
ReplyDeleteBmoon -- I hate to disappoint but mixing on paper takes ten times as long -- there are many layers, a dozen is not unusual, and each one has to be totally dry! - Barbara
I think this looks great! The apples at the top are especially well done - perfect color, value and light.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann. - Barbara
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
ReplyDeleteWell done, barbara; I like your apple painting!
ReplyDeleteShelly & Claudia -- Thank you so much!
