On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Christmas iris

I was so proud of the 15 boys I worked with at Juvenile Hall this afternoon. Last week I taught them how to do iris folding and we decorated a wall. Today we developed that technique into Christmas cards they could mail to family members. Last week they were terrified, it was the hardest craft they'd ever met up with. But today they jumped right into it, they remembered how to do it and chose the papers with care, folded neatly and lined up the angles precisely. Each card was perfectly acceptable as a handmade gift. I praised them several times and I think they were proud to have made something lovely instead of creating chaos once more!
