Aloha Sunday
Every Labor Day Sunday St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Napa, California, marks the day as Aloha Sunday, a welcome back to the new academic year after all the summer vacations. Parishioners are encouraged to wear their Hawaiian aloha shirts and dresses. This year, while doodling during the sermon, I sketched the preacher with his aloha stole. I added the color after I got home. During the coffee hour a mother and her little girl danced the hula for an appreciative audience.
This week I've been venturing into Artist Trading Card territory. I've never made any before but want to participate in a couple swaps that look interesting -- one which requires each card to have polka dots somewhere and the other featuring an altered Mona Lisa.
If anybody wouldn't mind drawing in church, it'd be Episcopalians. Your parish sounds fun. The North Texas ones are beleaguered (think Blue in a Red State). Glad your remission is holding up. Makes one wonder about the accuracy of staging and prognoses, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteGreat sketch of your minister and love the ATCs. Great sense of humor.
