On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Advent 1

Yesterday was the first Sunday in Advent, the first day of the new Christian year. We attended an evening service of Lessons and Carols, which was beautiful. I, of course, never miss opportunities to doodle in church. With Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) it helps me focus and concentrate tremendously - I was present throughout!

Aloha Sunday

Every Labor Day Sunday St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Napa, California, marks the day as Aloha Sunday, a welcome back to the new academic year after all the summer vacations. Parishioners are encouraged to wear their Hawaiian aloha shirts and dresses. This year, while doodling during the sermon, I sketched the preacher with his aloha stole. I added the color after I got home. During the coffee hour a mother and her little girl danced the hula for an appreciative audience.

This week I've been venturing into Artist Trading Card territory. I've never made any before but want to participate in a couple swaps that look interesting -- one which requires each card to have polka dots somewhere and the other featuring an altered Mona Lisa.
