On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

My dog-friendly little world

It's been drizzling most of the day here in Santa Rosa, my kind of weather.  Everything is a bit calmer; it's Saturday and the clinic is closed so there are no medical appointments. Parking, Steve said, was easy. He, Demi and I walked this morning (inside) and got the required 30 minutes in.  I may or may not walk more this evening, but at least the basics were covered.

For some reason it's been a high pain day.  I can have liquid morphine as often as every 20 minutes so, if I speak up, I will always get help.  I'm just confused as to why the usual scheduled pain medication hasn't been nearly enough.

My dinner will be the next notch on the meal upgrades - to soft.  I'm starting to crave bread and butter, but I don't know if that qualifies as soft. Is a banana soft? What about cottage cheese? The decision was made late in the afternoon so I didn't actually fill out a menu sheet and am rather clueless as to what to expect.

Demi is now well known by most of the daytime staff.  She doesn't stay overnight with me, (I can just barely take care of myself at night, let alone her as well) but morning and afternoon folks now address her by name.  Now that I know all dogs are welcome here - service dogs as well as household pets - I'm tempted to have Steve bring in my Brixie-Boy for a visit. Staff has been so warm and accepting of Demi I don't want to wreck it by turning my room into a zoo.

But it is a temptation...

  1. Hi Barbara, If I were in the room next door to you, I would be so happy to see everyone's dogs, no matter how many !! AND, I know your Brixie-Boy must be missing you. Let him visit ! Keeping you and your family in my prayers. Ginny

  2. I'm so sorry to hear you are in such pain - hope that the dosage all gets worked our really soon! And I'm also so sorry about the food choices you've been given - it's not all bad, but as soon as someone says i CAN'T have something, I crave it all the more.

  3. Gotta get Brix in there to visit. Poor thing bis probably missing you terribly and besides, pain is supposed to diminish when dogs are around so it'd be good for both of you.
