On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Changing course

I haven't been out in the rain all month, but this afternoon, on the way to a blood draw, we pulled onto the shoulder to snap these solstice sheep grazing in a light shower.

I'm more wobbly today than yesterday, but I'm also taking part in the real world - last minute Christmas preparations, enjoying reading cards and letters, visits from friends.  It's been a difficult time since August 2011 when first symptoms developed, and I'm looking forward to resolving current health concerns and having another period of feeling well.  My oncologist keeps reminding me that the body is always trying to repair itself.  This time I am fully cooperative and can't wait to walk regularly (instead of hobble from room to room), eat tons of fruits and veggies (mashed potatoes are saving me now) and generally making healthy everything the law of my personal land.

I could take a lesson from these sheep:  healthy beings walk, rain or shine!

  1. Oh, sweet solstice sheep.... Thank you for pulling off the road and taking a picture to share.

I hope that little seasonal pleasures can at least sometimes eclipse some of the pain and unpleasantness.

Best wishes to you & your family for a happy holiday together!
