On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Quiet Sunday

I don't have nearly enough jammy days.  It's not unusual to have a day totally indoors, but I (almost) always get fully dressed and ready to answer the door.  Not yesterday.  And it was wonderful to stay cozily warm at home.  So what that it was blazing outdoors, it felt just perfect to me.

On Saturday our son and daughter-in-law arrived from Honolulu for a midwestern home cooked meal and a great visit.  They make it seem as though it's just a jaunt over to the mainland.  Unfortunately, the trip home was not as easy.  After a nine hour flight delay they finally took off and landed in HNL in time to go to work.

They could have driven it faster.  Well, you know what I mean.

  1. I'm glad you had a good visit with your son & daughter-in-law! They came from Hawaii for a day? Amazing, but why the heck not?

  2. Hi Rebecca - It actually makes more sense when you know the whole story. Daughter-in-Law has a telecommuting job and is in San Francisco almost every month for face-to-face meetings. Now that our son is "only" working (not juggling a law school schedule too) he is sometimes able to meet up with her. She already has a hotel room and rental car so it's just the airfare - and last week it was below $250 round trip, would you believe it? We live an hour north of San Francisco. So, yes, he came for the weekend - a day with her, a day with us - but it isn't quite as strange as it probably sounded.

  3. It's fantastic that the round-trip was so affordable (cheaper than if I flew to California from Arkansas) and that they were able to combine some family visiting time with her work trip. A very tidy arrangement.
