On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The new normal

The past 24 hours was devoted to family members from nearby and faraway.  All eight of us were together and the atmosphere was warm, full of stories and memories.  I think everyone was pleasantly surprised to see with their own eyes that I have not become totally moribund in their absence and, in fact, was fully present and laughing with the best of them.

I'm still taking the occasional pain pill, but am at about 90% of normal.  That last 10% of recovery will just have to happen while I am back in art classes (tomorrow evening) and with the kids at Juvenile Hall.

I also want to do more tangling - for the meditation, for muscle control in my fingers and for the enjoyment of the art of zentangle.  I haven't learned any new tangles for most of the year so have a wide open field in that one.
