On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Back in business

Okay, so on Sunday night the pain was so severe that I asked Steve to take me to the emergency room 20 miles away.  Two miles from the hospital the car blew up!  First some funny sounds, then smoke, flames and loud pops.  He had just had mechanical work done and the guy said it was good for 150,000 more miles.  Steve was in shock, I was amused.  "Just think, Steve, now you get to buy a new car!"

So an ambulance took me to the emergency room.  After a CT scan I was diagnosed with hydronephrosis - fluid collecting in the kidney because a tumor was blocking the drainage.  I was in surgery by morning to have a stent placed and have just returned home.

The pathology report is due by Friday and then a treatment plan will be completed.  As things look now, because the tumor is small and localized but in an odd place, it looks like weekly radiation will zap it - but that idea might change if the pathology report has new information to be considered.  At any rate, I don't expect this next chapter to be the ordeal of the past year, just a blip.

It better be because I plan to start school on Monday night.

  1. All the best with radiotherapy. Here's hoping nothing important will get zapped in the process.Hoping for zero to no side effects:-)
