On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Everything is coming up marigolds

Here are the tomato plants I planted on May 10th - twice as large as they were then.  The marigolds are there to keep the bugs away (I think, anyway I know they go well in tomato beds).

Steve and I walked Brix and Demi 2-1/2 miles after dinner this evening, chatting with folks every now and then.  I've seen research studies where dog walkers have many more social interactions per day than walkers without dogs.

There's something acceptable about talking with a stranger who's dog friendly.  One woman pulled over in her car to stop us because her dog was lost and she was obviously distressed.  We watched for Gus the entire distance, but he never crossed our path.  Hopefully she had already found him.

Earlier today we voted in the California primary election and later went to a tea with a dozen friends.  I seem to be gradually crawling out of my hole, have you noticed?

  2. Marigolds to keep away the bugs? Very interesting - I might consider planting them around my own tomatoes.

    Thanks for the tip!
