On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Summertime, and the reading is easy

Brix, my first-born puppy
Lab/golden mix, 8-1/2 years
It felt like Sunday all day to me, not a Tuesday.  My internal clock is totally disoriented, probably because I spent so much of the day hidden in a book.

When I was working regular hours I used to think it would be great to be sick enough to merit time off, but well enough that I could curl up with a good book.

All those months on the sofa disqualified me from reading, I was just too tired and slept and slept and slept.  Now that my energy level is increasingly, slowly but noticeably, I have reached the point that I used to long for.  I am still legitimately in recovery, but I can read for hours and have the time to do it.  It's almost as though I've rediscovered books after a lengthy hiatus.

Besides, it's summertime, and that's what summer is for, right, reading all day long?

  1. Sounds like a good plan to me! I need to pick one of the books I've bought and put on my kindle and read it. I keep putting it off for who knows when. I hope you enjoy every hour spent reading now! Time is flying. My dogs are moving right up in years too. I hate to see that for them as time is always tomo short with a dog.

  2. You're right. There's something so unfair about a dog's short lifespan. They deserve better!
