On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

No pressure, Mom

The final project in Nana's Art Camp was collage.  I explained to Youngest Grandson that a jigsaw puzzle is complete and whole even though it may be comprised of several hundred pieces.  Similarly, some believe that human beings are comprised of many integrated parts.  So I asked him to find images in magazines and depict one part of himself. He jumped into the task readily and constructed the part of him that really wants a dog.  We shrunk it down and turned it into another postcard to mail to Mom.  His mother hates dogs!

After a week of rainy days we are now into real spring with each day a little warmer than the one before.  I saw three deer this morning and also passed an enormous flock of Munchy Mowers - sheep rented and used to chow down weeds and grasses to prepare for the new season.  My next chemotherapy infusion is on Friday.  It behooves me, before then, to see if I can get some planting done for my summer garden.  I'm not really behind yet, but I need to get on it or I will be.

I've been following my blood testing closely.  My creatinine level still isn't in normal range although it continues to fall.  It's frustrating to me because I've been practically waterboarding myself to flush out the contrast dye and keep the kidneys hydrated as I was asked to do.

In the meantime, this has been a good week.  Yesterday I went grocery shopping, felt great and didn't even think of using an electric cart.  I bought the "cleanest" groceries I've ever bought - nary a morsel of sugar or white flour anywhere, just lots of fruit and veggies.  For two weeks now I've been eating "clean" and am losing weight like crazy.

I guess my ice cream diet is over...

  1. I just read the book Born To Bark (you'd love it) and his wife didn't like his choice of dog which was active and loud so he got her a quiet and soft dog, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. That seemed to appease her. My son-in-law hates dogs but is allowing the kids to have some. His son got a puppy and SIL couldn't handle the accidents so the next dog had two be 2 years old and daddy approved. It worked out well so we are hoping the last child will get to get one now (oldest sister has a cat). Maybe there could be some way to work out a dog for your grandson. I know sometimes its just not possible though.
