On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Nerd #5 - International Fake Journal Month

Usborne Art Ideas
Drawing Faces

Steve drove me to Santa Rosa yesterday morning for the third and final Neupogen injection, hopefully the last one forever.

Later, in the afternoon, I forced myself to get to Juvenile Hall for the girls' group.  This is the week I keep missing - and now I feel totally exonerated.  The girls were great.  I was happy to be with them, had a topic for discussion and an art project to accompany the theme, but on the trek home I realized how quickly I was falling apart.  My bones ached and I was close to meltdown status.  I went directly to bed - no supper, freezing under four blankets - and slept all the way until morning.

I keep telling myself that every day will be better from now on.  It's all about recovering from the chemotherapy, my summer plan.

  1. I'm glad your body let you sleep when you needed it: it wants to repair itself, too. I'm sending good vibes for your summer plan--let the healing begin.

    1. Hi Rebecca - Yep, even my onc - last week - said something very similar about the body wanting to repair itself. I keep telling myself that every day will be a little better. It's become a mantra....

  2. Even though you are having meltdown times, you seem to be doing quite a few activities! Yes, let's plan on a wonderful summer of recovery.

  3. At least you were able to sleep all night! I think it is good for the girls to see you right now. For one thing I think they figure they must matter to you and for another, it's good for them to see you trying so hard when it would be easier to just quit. Someday when they face this or something else that's tough to handle they'll remember how you made the effort.
