On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Looking toward April

I passed the creatinine test today so tomorrow's chemotherapy is scheduled.  I was still out of range, but less than last week which was less than earlier, the reading that caught everyone's attention.

So, I have two more chemotherapy cycles, the one tomorrow and the one three weeks from tomorrow.  That gives me six weeks to plan my new life.  The truth is, I'm feeling a bit lost.  After 10-1/2 years of nonstop infusions, including five years of weekly treatment, I don't quite have the grip on life that I felt before all this started.

I'm glad International Fake Journal Month is starting on April 1st.  It's a time to do art differently - either by choosing a different size book or working on a different kind of paper, or opting for different subject matter or working with supplies or techniques not usually used.  I'm even clueless on that - I have no idea what I will commit to this year.  I only know that I flaked the last two years, starting out with zeal and dropping out a few days into the project.

But I love the slogan for Fake Journal Month:  Life's so short, why live only one?

  1. Good luck with the chemo tomorrow, Barbara, and thanks for mentioning Fake Journal Month--the idea of it made me smile at the end of a long day!

  2. Hi Rebecca - If I were a more evolved soul I'd be stressing my gratitude that such treatment is available to me. Alas, I'm dreading it because I feel better every day now and don't want to go backwards. Just 6 more weeks.....
