ONE HAPPY FOOL

On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Living by Murphy's Law

You all know Murphy's law:  What can go wrong, will go wrong.  This morning Youngest Daughter woke up in her new board-and-care home.  At 7:00 a.m. her caregiver was calling us -- YD's glucometer (the meter she uses to check her blood glucose) had dead batteries!  This has never happened before, not in 20 years - and she's used lots of glucometers in that length of time.

The caregiver needed to leave for work.  The drugstores were still closed.  Youngest Daughter is an insulin-dependent diabetic and absolutely has to have a functioning glucometer on her person 24/7.  So... we worked out a plan and the crisis was averted.  She now has a new glucometer, a backup system and extra batteries.

But who would guess that such a need would arise on her first morning in a new home when there's never been such a problem in all those years?  Who, but Murphy!

    Hi Alex -- I like those two but can't really take credit. I was practicing eye-hand coordination by copying samples from a Dover publication. It taught me a lot about shapes, perspective and shading, but wasn't original. (sigh)
