On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Harbinger of hope

It's still January but apparently spring is on its way.  The camellia bush by the front door is beginning to bloom but you have to look up to see where the blossoming is beginning.  There are hundreds of buds ready to pop open in the days to come.

That's the good news, optimist that I am I always take note of the good news.

Oh, the other good news is that the oncology pharmacist called to say my white blood cell count improved after the Neupogen injections.  I was glad to hear that because the oncologist had just told me that my chemo marker was the highest it's been in five years and I was disappointed.  That marker bobbles with every reading so it could easily be a fluke, not an upward trend.

The bad news that's keeping us awake at night is that Youngest Daughter has to be moved again to another board and care facility or to a group home.  It will be the third move since November and she's showing signs of the fray.  The decision to move her has been made, next comes having her visit available options with her case manager and seeing what's the best fit.  I hope she's safe, I hope she's not far away, I hope the third time is the charm.  Bummer!

  1. This week I was cheered by some blooming camellias which I pass as I walk from the parking lot to my office, so we have some Arkansas/California synergy going.

I'm crossing my fingers that you'll find a new place for your daughter that's a good fit. It sounds difficult, both practically and emotionally, for all concerned.

  2. Hi Rebecca - Love the synergy part! As for Youngest Daughter, we're just going nuts over here. Keep those fingers crossed (please)....

  3. You sound like you are feeling so good right now. Glad to hear it. I hope the new home will work well for your daughter - she deserves a place where she will be comfortable and where you can feel good about. And not stress.
