On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

In her dotage

Online shopping purchases are beginning to drift in even though I've tried to buy locally.  It's hard, stores are crowded and I have been wobbly and close to fainting.  I even retrieved my cane today, something I haven't used for almost ten years when bone metastases fractured my pelvis.  This year the issue is different - I don't want to pass out in the aisle and often there's no place to sit down.

It was in the 20s last night but will be up ten degrees tonight and may be moving toward rain.  (I promise, in my next life I'll be a meteorologist since weather details hold endless fascination for me.)

Today was a gentle day.  I slept in, cooked myself a real breakfast and sat around a lot with CNN and crossword puzzles.  Steve cooked me a fresh batch of tapioca pudding, starting from the pearls.  Then he put up two Christmas trees and strung the lights.  I don't know when they'll get decorated, maybe when Youngest Daughter comes home for Christmas since she loves to hang them.  The neighbors across the street were holding a garage sale so cars were driving by all day - and this old lady was sort of keeping a watch from the sofa.  (That really is "old" behavior, isn't it???)

There was just the one foray into the great outdoors, but it was too hard.  Today is the fifth day of the second chemotherapy cycle.  It's the day my teeth ache!  Seriously, it happened last month too - for some reason the chemo feels like every molar is overdue for extraction and gets me up during the night for a pain pill.  It's not about dentistry, just a weird response to Taxotere.  Fortunately it only last a few days and dissipates.

Next... it will be tomorrow...

Hey Barbara, you know that fainting thing? Do you carry a bottle of water around with you? My blood pressure drops and causes me to get fainty so I always have water and...you can buy a box of Propel powder at Walmart or supermarkets. Little packets to drop into the water bottle. Perks me right up. I don't know if that's related at all to your situation but standing on my feet and shopping is an issue all year round. This is Julie Berry in case I have to post anonymously...aloha.
