On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Chicken love

Whatever meds I'm taking are giving me vivid dreams and the kind of nightmares that Steve has to wake me up.  Twice last night.

But today I had to take second place to Rocket.  I went outside to visit her and noticed blood all over the pen.  She somehow ripped out a nail and was in need of chicken first aid.  She was hobbling, favoring her sore toe, but held totally still when Steve put her foot under warm water to clean it and apply some Neosporin.

He was reminding me that when we were in our 20s and he was a seminary student he somehow hadn't envisioned that in his 60s he would be standing at the kitchen sink soothing the toe of a wounded chicken.

You never know about life, do you? I mean, that the gratitude of a chicken will be the high point of your day????

  1. You and Rocket take care of yourselves, today. My thoughts are with you both. Have you ever sketched your Rocket?

  2. YES! When she was a baby - no head feathers yet - I painted her and it ended up in a senior art show. http://demibrix.blogspot.com/2010/08/rockets-first-portrait.html
