On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Safe at home

We're about 3,500 miles from New York City and other points on the east coast, but I've been parked in front of CNN watching the arrival of hurricane Irene.

For a while I had the feeling that I should be scurrying around preparing for flooding, but here the weather was made for tourists in Wine Country - low 80s, a light breeze, bright sunshine, no clouds anywhere.

So I painted instead.

  6. Thank you, all. When I turned it in to my watercolor teacher she said I needed to darken the background. (sigh) But somehow I saw that coming so why didn't I do it ahead of time????
