On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Dog, famous dog

Demi is now famous, thanks to Pete Scully. First he organized us for the Davis Sketch Crawl, then he drew her into one of his sketches. It's HERE. I'm the one with the leash.

Demi works so hard! This afternoon we walked the half mile to and from the library so kids could read to her. She listened to a variety of stories and enjoyed the attention. Kids ranged from three years (I did the reading) to almost ten years.

Our lovely weather inspired me to begin the spring yard cleanup. Oh, does it need it! I swept and hosed most of the deck and raked the chicken pen.

Planting tomatoes will be next - more Topsy-Turvys this year because the chickens can't reach them. They will try. I see them often (daily) actually jumping to take a nibble from a geranium leaf. The potted plants are on the deck rails, what, maybe 3-1/2 feet up? So they position themselves under the desired plant, then jump!

  1. I have a friend in CO whose dog gets read to at libraries also. Is that a nationwide program or just someone else with a great idea? I'm headed over to see Demi's portrait.

  3. I don't think it's a nationwide program, but more and more libraries are doing it. Various agencies sponsor reading dogs. In Demi's case we're on our own, not working with an agency.
