On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Touch of elegance

I couldn't stand it anymore so I suggested to Steve that we go to San Francisco and visit the Legion of Honor Museum for a break from the news and all the distress of the past week. There were three exhibits that I really wanted to see - Pulp Fashion: The Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave (incredible), Japanese illustrated books from a couple hundred years ago (I wonder what was lost in the tsunami) and the Polish-American miniaturist, Arthur Szyk. My brain was exploding with delight by all we saw. Our lunch break was in the museum café where we shared this wonderful platter topped off with pecan torte.

I'm revived, my world is a bit larger and more complete and I'm ready to resume normal life in my own little space.

  2. Yes Rebecca -- It was only 4-1/2 hours, a wonderful mini-vacation.

PS -- Another thing we have in common -- we both have alliterative names. Mine came by marriage, but still.... it's been my name for 45 years!
