On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Plays with knives

I joined a free online class through Artists of the Round Table, a Yahoo group, in which we are working our way through ART STAMPING WORKSHOP, by Gloria Page and hoping to learn how to carve rubber stamps.  I not a big stamp artist but occasionally I like to work with them.

Rubber stamps coordinate well with Zentangle.  Sometimes, as with the jar image I posted twice last week, a stamped image can be the impetus to go further when a person doesn't really have many drawing skills.  My Thanksgiving Pantry had almost no actual drawing in it (except for the wooden shelves) but, with one rubber stamp run through the copy machine and sized down on a template for tracing, or masked so the jar top could open or be taken off, I could make a journal page that captured my sense of gratitude at the time.

The first chapter has required three carvings so far -- my initials (really, really difficult because there are so many curves), this shadow stamp (easy) and the tag shadow stamp (also easy).  I haven't been looking ahead much so I'm not sure what comes next, but you know you'll hear about it, right?
