On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Best friends

I was up until 3:00 this morning - I do that often - while Brix and Parisse kept me company.  Dogs are sometimes wiser than humans - they slept.

Brix, the larger guy on the left, nearly killed himself this weekend and I'm still a bit in shock.  He ate a toxic amount of roasted chocolate covered coffee beans - gobbled then down as I walked into the room.  Of course he was sick - dogs and caffeine don't mix - and had multiple symptoms.  I was afraid he'd go into cardiac arrest before I could get him to the veterinary hospital as his heart rate was very rapid.  All his laboratory testing came back wonky so he'll be retested in a week. This was the worst thing that's ever happened to any of our pets (aside from normal deaths in old age) and was upsetting to all of us.  Let's just call it a close call and a reminder to regard dangerous items with the same attitude we'd have if there was a toddler around. Whew!

So glad Brix is ok. I'm sure that was upsetting to you. They are part of the family. Thank goodness you caught him doing it, tho, otherwise you wouldn't have known what the problem was.
