On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

The beggar

Meet Demi, food-focused beggar.  Steve and I were watching a DVD together and enjoying apples I had baked in brown sugar and cinnamon. I finished first and set my dish aside.

Our four-footed foodie wanted a portion. She was willing to wait because in her country the pack leaders eat first and then the remnants are distributed among the lesser members. So she waited and she waited and she waited and then Steve stood, carried his plate to the dishwasher and came back empty-handed. Dang! I swear I heard her say it.

For the record, it's really hard to enjoy a treat when eyes bore into you like what she was doing with Steve. Guess we've let that bit of social training slip up a bit...

  1. In our house, my husband thinks the dogs should get a few bites from almost every meal or snack. I make the bites pretty darn small but it's hard to not go overboard on tiny dogs with their tiny weight.

  2. Our dog Milly sits facing away from us as though ignoring us when we eat, then my husband pointed out she was staring into the glass panel of a cupboard so she could see our reflection, its hilarious. We do save something for her at the end,

That's why when we have a treat, our cat Toby gets one, too. He loves his Greenies. :)
