On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Idea of the day

Tonight is Session Four of a six-week art journaling class that I am teaching through our local community adult school. Now that students are full of drawing ideas they need to start making their own books. We're starting with a simple accordion folded journal with fabric covering. It can be made any size, but mine are 6" tall and 8" wide (when closed) and include 15 workable pages.

That brings me to the next point. Surely I can complete 15 pages in any month, even a busy one. So.... why don't I start binding one every month, dedicate it to October or whatever, and fill it? At the end of one year I would have a stack of 12 completed books, each thematically bound, each one full of pages I'm truly proud of. It would mean I would work harder on each page, maybe even take two days for each one, but in the end I would be oh, so pleased!

  3. Great Blog! You are a credit to the cancer blogging community. I have added you to my blogroll, “Cancer Blogs” with over 1000 other personal cancer blogs at www.beingcancer.net, a cancer networking site featuring a cancer book club, guest blogs, cancer resources, reviews and more.
If you have not visited, please stop by. If you agree that the site is a worthwhile resource for those affected by cancer, please consider adding Being Cancer to your own blogroll. And like bloggers everywhere, I love receiving your comments and ideas. I just reviewed a book on journaling and healing in today's post.
    Take care, Dennis (beingcancer@att.net)
